A Day in the Life of a COO at FXBO

A Day in the Life of a COO at FXBO

Leadership.
What images does that word bring to your mind?

Big meetings, decisive speeches, and someone sitting table-head reciting an agenda?

Effective leadership is far less theatrical.

Most of it happens in the small, almost invisible, moments like a conversation that quietly aligns three departments or a decision that removes friction before it becomes a problem.

From the outside, it is easy to assume the COO job revolves around process charts and operational oversight. Inside a company like FXBO, it flows more like the maestro of an orchestra.

We spent a day with Nicole Demosthenous, Chief Operating Officer at FXBO, got a closer look at the invisible coordination that keeps the entire company running smoothly, and now, the lessons are yours.

Meet Nicole, Chief Operating Officer at FXBO

Full Name: Nicole Demosthenous
Job Title: Chief Operating Officer
Department: All of them!
Location: Office-based
Time at FXBO: 4+ years

Nicole’s journey started in Customer Support, which, to be fair, is one of the quickest ways to understand how a company works. It teaches you how to listen carefully, solve problems under pressure, and recognize the difference between a minor inconvenience and a system-wide headache wearing a small disguise.

That foundation, along with the trust of the people around her and the right opportunity at the right time, eventually led her into operations leadership at FXBO. Having worked with FXBO’s leadership before, she already knew the environment would be solid, healthy, and worth building a future in.

Her first impression?
People were welcoming, the atmosphere felt genuine, and the room for growth was real.

Personal Fun Fact: When she's not deep in CRM operations, Nicole is a part-time singer, proving that leadership and creativity truly go hand in hand.

How Does a COO Kick Off the Day?

Nicole starts her day the way many people in leadership do. First come the emails, then the scan across departments. What needs attention, what is moving well, what looks quiet but may not stay quiet for long.

Most mornings begin with a quick read of the landscape:

  • Urgent updates

  • Departmental progress

  • Issues that may need escalation

  • Priorities that shifted overnight

From there, the day becomes a series of conversations, check-ins, decisions, and small corrections. The goal is not just to keep work moving, but to keep people aligned while it moves.

As Nicole puts it:

“You have to be ready to coordinate a bit of chaos.”

And that, perhaps, is the most honest description of operations. Not chaos in the dramatic sense, just the everyday kind that appears when teams depend on one another, priorities compete for attention, and no two days agree to behave the same way.

The Core Mission: What a COO at FXBO Does

At FXBO, the COO role touches almost every department.

On paper, the responsibilities look straightforward:

  • Overseeing cross-departmental operations to keep the engine running smoothly.

  • Ensuring internal workflows are efficient and effective.

  • Supporting high-level client issues and escalations.

  • Aligning the IT, support, and leadership teams toward a common goal.

  • Daily syncing with the CEO.

  • Making sure company's targets and visions are being met.

In reality, the role is much more fluid than a tidy list can capture.

A large part of Nicole’s job is knowing when to step in, where to step in, and which conversation needs to happen before a problem becomes larger, louder, and more expensive. That is especially true when client issues turn technical and require several teams to move together rather than in parallel.

The work is operational, yes, but just as often, it is interpretive and intuitive.

Reading signals.
Connecting dots.
Knowing which friction is temporary and which one deserves immediate attention.

Where the COO Role Demands the Most

One of the more understated challenges of operations is that everything can feel important at once.

A COO is rarely working on a single thread in peace. More often, the role requires attention across multiple initiatives, teams, and timelines, all moving at slightly different speeds and all convinced they are the urgent one.

That means focus becomes less about silence and more about judgment.

What needs escalation?
What can wait?
What requires intervention?
What needs a little room before it settles on its own?

Being involved in many initiatives at once is both a test of organization and clarity.

Collaboration in a High-Growth Environment

At FXBO, collaboration is not a slogan someone printed and forgot about. It is the only practical way operations work.

Nicole works closely with the CTO, the IT department, support teams, and system analytics.

To keep communication seamless and transparent, she relies on:

  • Microsoft Teams for quick discussions and live problem-solving

  • Helpdesk systems for tracking issues properly

  • Email (still alive and well despite decades of people predicting its death)

Teams is the main channel, which means conversations happen quickly and problems do not have the chance to age badly before someone looks at them.

Case Scenario:

One recent case captured this dynamic well.
A client was facing a technical issue that support could not fully resolve alone. Nicole brought together the Head of IT and the System Analytics team, aligned the right people around the problem, and moved the issue forward with the kind of speed that only happens when everyone is actively talking to one another. The issue was resolved, but more importantly, the process around it improved too.

That is often the difference between fixing a problem and learning from one.

Challenges and Growth in a Fintech Leadership Role

Working in SaaS means change is never really finished. There is always another update, another moving target, another parallel priority pretending not to be urgent.

For Nicole, one of the recurring challenges has been exactly that: being pulled into several initiatives at once. But it is also the environment that has accelerated her growth the most.

Since joining FXBO, Nicole has expanded her:

  • IT and technical expertise

  • Cross-functional leadership skills

  • Strategic decision-making abilities

One project she is especially proud was assisting in the optimization of IT department procedures. The result? Greater efficiency, happier clients, and a more stable operational backbone for the company.

A hundred small adjustments that keep the entire machine running smoothly without anyone stopping to notice the machinery at all; that is good leadership in operational work.

FXBO's Secret Sauce: A Friendly, Relaxed, and Warm Culture

Company culture can make or break operational performance. When asked what surprised her most about FXBO, Nicole’s answer was simple but revealing: she can bring her dog to the office. 🐶

This small but meaningful detail reflects a larger truth: FXBO fosters a relaxed, human-centered work environment. She describes the culture in three words: Friendly, Relaxed, and Warm.

Even in a demanding leadership role, Nicole feels comfortable taking time off, thanks to a culture built on trust and accountability. She’s quick to point out that FXBO is a non-toxic environment where high performance is valued and employees are trusted to manage their work.

Nicole’s Advice for Future FXBO Team Members

For professionals exploring a career in fintech, Nicole’s advice is refreshingly direct:

“Do your work at your 100% potential and you will be highly valued.”

The kind of person who tends to do well at FXBO is proactive, accountable, and comfortable taking ownership.

Someone who does not wait around to be micromanaged into usefulness.

Someone who understands that collaboration works best when everyone arrives prepared to carry their share of the weight.
